    Simple Syrup

If you can boil water, you can make simple syrup, so why buy it pre-made? Simple syrup is a common ingredient in cocktail recipes and even iced coffee. This recipe can be refrigerated in a glass jar for up to a month.

    Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Southern Cane Pure Cane Sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • Directions

    1. Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Let cool before using in your favorite recipes.

    Mr. Scrooge’s Eggnog

We call this Mr. Scrooge’s Eggnog because it’s so good you’ll be tempted to be stingy. The eggnog can be stored in your refrigerator for up to one week, but we doubt it will last that long.

    Ingredients:

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup Southern Cane Pure Cane Sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • Directions

    1. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until creamy, set aside.

    2. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the cream, milk, nutmeg and salt. Stir often until mixture barely comes to a simmer. Remove from heat.

    3. Add a heaping spoonful of the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking vigorously. Continue this process, one large spoonful at a time until eggs are tempered.

    4. Pour the eggnog mixture back into the saucepan on the stove and whisk constantly until it reaches about 160° F and is slightly thickened. It will thicken even more as it cools.

    5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into a pitcher and cover.

    6. Refrigerate until chilled. If you like, you can top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and fresh whipped cream before serving.
